Catí Festivities

Sant Antoni

Around the 17th of January, the festival of the patron saint of animals is celebrated. The celebrations begin with the "arrossegada", which consists of cutting down an oak tree and transporting it to the municipality, usually in Plaça de Dalt, to set up the bonfire that will be lit once night falls. When the bonfire is almost consumed, the animals are blessed and the "coquetes", a stale bread typical of the date. That same night, the "Santantonada" takes place, a play in which the townspeople represent the life of the saint with Sant Antoni and the demons as protagonists. The next morning, to end the festivities, a mass is held.

Sant Vicent

On Easter Monday, the feast of St. Vincent is celebrated, with a procession and mass.

Sant Pere de Castellfort

On the weekend of the first Sunday in May, the Pilgrimage of Sant Pere de Castellfort takes place. Between Catí and Castellfort there is an obligatory stop in the area of l'Avellà. The first records of this pilgrimage date back to 1321 and, according to what has been recorded, in its beginnings it was carried out on horseback. Today, many residents still choose to pray on the back of an equine. Some of the most significant moments are the arrival in l'Avellà, due to its importance for the people of Catella, the arrival on Saturday in Sant Pere de Castellfort, together with the torchlight procession, and the arrival again in Catí on Sunday. Beans with rice and soft cheese are part of the traditional gastronomy of the day.
