The Benassal Trades Fair is a traditional and cultural event that is held annually in this municipality, usually on a weekend at the end of July. This fair aims to recover and show the legacy of traditions, ancient trades and local crafts and rural culture of the region.
During the fair, stands are set up and activities related to a wide variety of traditional trades are organized, generally linked to the way of life of the region. Local artisans showcase their skills and techniques, offering live demonstrations and sharing their knowledge with visitors. Shoemakers, whitewashers, laundresses, shearers, town criers and a multitude of other trades, some of which are now lost, come together to take the little ones and the not so young to a time not so distant in time but in many customs and traditions.
The Benassal Trades Fair is also a space where visitors have the opportunity to relive the history of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, with traditional clothing and tools, as well as visit old buildings, and learn first-hand what life was like for our ancestors in the rural and agricultural environments of the area.
In addition to traditional trades, the fair also has cultural and recreational activities that reflect the traditions and customs of Benassal and Alt Maestrat. Popular music, typical dances, gastronomic tastings of traditional dishes, games and representations of ancient customs, guided tours and exhibitions make up a weekend where residents and visitors are immersed in an atmosphere of times gone by.
The Benassal Trades Fair is open to local residents and visitors who can participate in the events that are held and be part of the recreation itself if they wish. It is an event that celebrates the identity and history of the community, while fostering an appreciation for local history and traditions.
Benassal is a very famous place for its excellent mineral-medicinal water and for its interesting historical and cultural heritage.
