Vilar de Cenes Heritage

Vilar de Canes is an elongated village with five streets that give it its backbone. On Baix street there is a bar, Les Eres, where you can cool off in summer and eat all year round. Opposite is the doctor's office and very close, the children's school.

Vilar de Canes is home to a number of historic buildings that bear witness to its rich past. The Parish Church, although damaged during the Civil War, remains an important landmark and symbol of faith and the
resistance of the people. Another emblematic building is the Oil Mill, located on Carrer de la Sagristia. This mill, which also functions as an Oil Interpretation Center, shows the importance of the
oil in the local economy over the centuries. The machinery, including the hydraulic press and the stone oil mill, offers a fascinating insight into traditional oil production techniques.
The Town Hall of Vilar de Canes, rebuilt after the bombings of the Civil War, is another key point in the life of the town. Along with the Elm, these places are silent witnesses to the history and evolution of the community.
Traditionally, elms in village squares served as gathering places and symbolized community life.

In the lowest part of the Vilar de Canes square there is a house with a nice engraving: "Toms Miralles ordered it to be made in 1897", which crowns the crossbar of the door. Next door you will find a house from 1915 with modernist elements. Look out for these peculiarities when you take a leisurely stroll through the streets of the village. I'm sure you can discover some other detail.
