Traditional oil mill. Vilar de Canes

Send

Vilar de Canes is a picturesque town in the Alt Maestrat region, Castellón, known for its tranquillity and rich history. This small village offers its visitors a privileged natural environment, surrounded by mountains and valleys that invite you to contemplate and enjoy nature

It is surrounded by almond groves, which offer a spectacular landscape during their flowering at the end of winter, and ancient olive trees, which are not only a symbol of the resilience of the area and its people, but also a source of wealth since time immemorial, as corroborated by the old oil mill and its artisanal production, which we can still know thanks to the Oil Interpretation Centre, where the traditional tools with which liquid gold was made are exhibited.

Located on Sagristia Street, behind the parish church, and visitable on request to the City Council, it shows the importance of oil in the local economy over the centuries. The machinery, including the hydraulic press and the stone oil mill, offers a fascinating insight into traditional oil production techniques.
